Problem: First order of business was Laura's office. Currently functioning as a spare bedroom, this space needed a total rehaul that included a switch out of all the furnishings, taking down wallpaper, lowering the shelves, etc.
Solution: The color scheme we decided on was citrus spring, think serbert colors of yellow, blue and green. This palette was perfectly offset by white office furniture ala Pottery Barn. What do you know, Laura even had the wardrobe to match her office! Proof that these are clearly the right color choices for her business.
Problem: Laura & Tom were ready for a new look for the living room. The color scheme was mauve and hunter green, and there was wall-to-wall carpeting. Tall shelving units made the room feel heavy, as well as an overabundance of furniture in the room.
Solution: The walls were painted a warm butter color, and the ceiling a lighter shade of the same. Red made the perfect accent color. The carpeting was ripped up, exposing the hard wood floor beneath. A natural Cecil rug was laid down. The striped slip cover for the couch was switched out for a neutral beige color. Side tables, the large square coffee table, high-backed chairs and the shelving units were downsized.
An ottoman now serves as the coffee table. Some of Laura’s MacKenzie-Childs, Ltd. collection was pulled in, as well as artwork from various other rooms. A room divider curtain was hung in the doorway to the entry to add more privacy. Tom invested in a modern carmel-colored leather recliner. Now this room is very warm and inviting.
