Problem:
When I reclaimed the house I grew up in,
the interior was very 80’s with all
white walls and trim, and track lighting
everywhere. There was exposed lathe in the
stairwell, and exposed beams in the downstairs
bedroom (hello bats!). The wall between
the kitchen and the parlor made both
rooms very dark.
Solution:
We added some major punch and color by painting
murals on every ceiling, archways and many
of the walls. We replaced the overhead track
lighting with stained glass light fixtures
and vintage chandeliers. We sheet rocked
the stairwell, which added space for another
mural, and knocked out the kitchen wall
and built a bar, which is now the focal
point of our home. We also reclaimed a scary back porch and gained a dining room.
“My favorite thing in the entire house
would probably have to be the kitchen
ceiling. It's so beautiful and amazing
and hard to take your eyes from. It just
seems like there is so much going on in
that painting, as if it is another life or
planet all together above you.
I think Jesse
is brilliant. Thanks again for the
tour.” -Terry Cuddy, Cayuga Community College Professor
"The
house was so "homey." I felt that
all of the color schemes blended and went
really well together and allowed for relaxation.
I love how she takes old things and "refabs"
them, and she quotes... "Don't support
the man..." I thought that was funny.
I liked the pop icon images and a sort of
cliché Americana that she
plays off of.” -Student of Terry Cuddy
