Problem:
A dated waterfront cottage that has served
as a transient bachelor pad for the past fifteen
years. The owners wanted to turn it into a
higher-end seasonal rental for visitors to
the Finger Lakes Region.
Solution:
Since all the walls were white, choosing the
color scheme, and painting every room was
the first step. I chose light and dark shades
of blue/greens (bedrooms) and gold/yellows
(kitchen), and combined both those colors
in the living room and porch.
For furniture, I found some treasures in the
owner's basement that were easily rehabilitated,
providing a very affordable solution. We bought
new rugs, and I provided custom kitsch window
treatments and artwork. Although it needed
to feel more inviting, I didn’t work
against the retro feel that the cottage had.
The floor covering in the kitchen was classic,
so we went with it, and I faux wood grained
the refrigerator and the stove to top it off!
