Problem: Deb had acquired the ranch home she grew up in, furniture and all! The look was dated, and the furniture needed to be cherry-picked.
Solution: We started in the bathrooms- one in the hall, the other was the master bath. In the hall, the vanity was overpowering the room, and the shower/bath was never used and could house a washer-dryer. The vanity came out, replaced by an antique wash basin topped with a brown marble vessel sink. A new light fixture replaced the flourescent tube. The toilet moved next to the vanity, and a pocket door added more room and better flow. Large-scaled floor tiles made the room feel even bigger!
Deb's color palette is a warm yellow tan paired with a carmel brown to match the woodwork. The accent color is a cool blue. Most of the rooms were painted with this theme- after wallpaper came down. The master bath got the same light fixture as the other bath, same hardware and new bath accessories.
Next up is Deb's bedroom. A new bed, bedding, window treatments and layout will give it a more modern feel. After that, installing more light fixtures and pulling up the wall-to-wall carpeting throughout the rest of the house. Then fine tuning furniture selection and arrangement in both the living room and the kitchen. Stay tuned to see if she goes for my idea of knocking out a small wall and building an island bar!
